Candace Evans – Jazz Musician
One of the most talented and versatile musicians performing in the Midwest, Candace Evans has earned a reputation as both a pianist and a vocalist capable of leading or complementing any musical performance independent of the genre. A classically trained pianist and vocalist, Ms. Evans is just as comfortable with Latin jazz as she is with compositionally complex classical music pieces. Candace Evans lives in Overland Park, Kansas, with her husband, Michael John Mally, where they are both active community members who devote much of their free time to an abundance of worthy causes.
What do you do in your spare time?
Michael J Mally, our daughter and I like to stay as active as possible whenever we have free time, so we do a lot of hiking and biking together. I also enjoy reading biographies and working with animals whenever I have the time to do so.
What is your favorite food?
I’ve always enjoyed most kinds of vegan or vegetarian dishes. My goal is to get Michael Mally on some of them too!
What are your aspirations in life?
I look forward to spending more time in the recording studio and continuing to perform live. I am also hoping to go back to school to complete work on my master’s degree, along with volunteering for animal welfare groups.
What is your biggest accomplishment to date?
My biggest accomplishments include recording two albums, and my most recent release, “So Nice,” has so far garnered excellent worldwide reviews. I am also exceptionally proud of having the opportunity to perform at major jazz festivals and venues throughout the Midwest.
What did you learn from your biggest failure?
I’ve learned that failure is a near-certainty when starting out in the music industry, and that the best teacher is not necessarily a formal education but is instead on-the-job training. It’s also important to realize that audiences and other musicians can be very critical, so perseverance and determination are essential qualities for success in this industry.
