Dr. Andrew Walker of Aspen Medical

Dr. Andrew Walker founded Aspen Medical in 2003 to help large companies and governments find more affordable solutions to healthcare.  Prior to starting Aspen Medical, Dr. Andrew Walker began his career as an officer in Australia’s elite parachute regiment. As a proud veteran of the Australian Army, Andrew made the decision to dedicate his life to helping others.

After the military, Dr. Walker found a calling as an entrepreneur focused on building companies that solve real world problems.  In 1998, he started Matrix Healthcare, a company directed at treating and diagnosing skin cancer. This led to inspire him to create Aspen Medical which has seen wide success since 2003.

In 2010, Dr. Walker started the Aspen Foundation – a charity with the sole intent to improve the health and welfare of the indigenous families of Australia.

Today, Aspen Medical employees over 2,200 people across the globe.

What Are Some Things That You Love?

I’m a huge fan of flying!  Ever since I was in the Army, I found myself to be very comfortable in the air with a parachute just gliding through the air.  It has to be the quietest place to relax and stay focused.  Soaring around with a paramotor is a great hobby of mine.

What’s Your Favorite Film?

Tough question! It’s hard to pick just one, but I’d have to say Mad Max was a favourite of mine – the original with Mel Gibson to be precise!

What Are Your Aspirations In Life?

Simple – I hope to help as many people as I can.  Aspen Medical not only employees people from all over the world, we’re providing affordable healthcare solutions to entities that would otherwise have to pay out an arm and a leg.

With our charity, the Aspen Foundation, I’ve realized the importance of reaching out and assisting rural communities.  One day, I aspire to be able to solve challenging health problems for those less fourtunate across the globe, not just here in Australia.

What’s Your Favorite Thing About Working In Your Industry?

The healthcare industry provides a lot of challenges.  Not only is it ever changing with new regulations, new service providers and health issues to address, it gives us something new to face each day.  I think that if my career had taken me elsewhere, I wouldn’t have the satisfaction that I have now when we solve real problems that bring a better quality of life to many people.

What’s One Piece Of Advice You Can Share With Others?

The best advice I could give is to seek to challenge yourself every day.  It’s easy to be complacent and do the bare minimum, as so many do, but if you challenge yourself in your professional or personal life, you’ll gain a wealth of experience and insight into what you’re made of.
