Jason Balin, Co-Founder of Hard Money Bankers, LLC

Jason Balin is the co-founder and managing member of Hard Money Bankers, LLC. He co-founded this private lending company 10 years ago with his partner Chris Haddon. His primary role inside Hard Money Bankers is to manage his sales team with investment loan origination and to underwrite all investment opportunities. Jason spends about half his day working on new/existing business and half his day on proactive marketing campaigns to help grow the company.

Jason grinds during business hours but its pure family time after 5:30 pm. Jason can be found as a regular contributor on many business and real estate channels including Entrepreneur, Inman, and Business.com. He also co-authored the book, The Whiteboard: Go From Blank Canvas to a Productive, Leveraged & Highly-Profitable Business.

What are your favorite books?

I pretty much read anything related to finance, business or real estate. I am a poor reader so Audible.com saved my life. I can rock through audio books quickly. I read based on referrals. Lots of titles to choose from so I stick to books recommended by successful people I know. About a year ago I read “The Snowball: Warren Buffett and the Business of Life”. I highly recommend it (even though it is like 30+ hours on audio). Understanding the concept of ‘the snowball’ will make you successful in life and business.

What’s your favorite T.V. show?

Anything on HBO and Showtime works for me. I love binge watching comedy, action and adventure shows but nothing with too much drama.

I would probably continue watching Seinfeld if there were new episodes but kinda stopped watching after I saw every episode 20 times.

I watch some sports too but only really care to watch Golf, Soccer, and Hockey (in that order).

What’s the best advice you ever received?

The best advice I have ever received is to stick to your business model, what you know and what you are good at. Get rid of Entrepreneur ADD and solely stick to what is working and making you money. If it works then put all in until you reach capacity or cross the finish line. After that, you can try something else.

What’s your favorite thing about working in your industry?

The business of investment real estate finance really allows me to be involved in money and deals. I get to be involved in a lot of new deals and business opportunities while being disciplined to only invest in the best (safe and most profitable) ones.

What motivates you every day?

I am motivated by growing our company and helping our staff, clients, and investors succeed and make more money. Every day brings new challenges and diversity so it is a fun experience every time I step foot in the office. I am involved in a lot of creative and unique opportunities daily so it keeps me actively involved and motivated. I also get to run several content marketing campaigns so can have fun promoting our business (online and offline).
