What are some things that you love?
I love lifting weights. I used to be a personal trainer, and I get a lot of enjoyment out of keeping my body in good shape. It’s not only good for the body, but it is also good for the mind.
I love my family, which has just expanded. I love spending time at home with my two daughters and my wife. They keep me grounded and sane when my working life can often be chaotic.
I love spending time with my old friends from college, even if I don’t get to see them often anymore. Many of them are in Boston and Buffalo, and I love going up there to spend a weekend now and then.
I am also a foodie. I love to visit new restaurants whenever I travel. It’s important to me that I eat healthily, but that gives me even more motivation to try new foods.
What is your favorite TV show?
My favorite TV show is House of Cards. I’ve always been intrigued with the government, and Frank Underwood is a fascinating fictional President. I also love Robin Wright’s performance as Claire Underwood. She is a great character, and as the show goes on with her in the starring role, I’m sure it will continue to impress.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Coming up through Economics, I can see where I get my data focused business model. A college professor taught me the value of decisions based on data. He advised that I always research everything thoroughly and that I should never make decisions based on gut reaction alone.
I have also been advised to be rational about my investments and not to go crazy and celebrate when a coin or a stock goes wild. We’re in for the long haul, not the short-term investment, and too much enthusiasm can lead you to make mistakes. My motto is grind daily, celebrate rarely.
How could you improve your business?
I’ve been considering creating video lessons for my website visitors. I would also like to do some more seminars and conferences where I can share my expertise. In the long term, I want to add a few more employees to my business. I have so many clients; it’s difficult to give them all the personal attention they deserve when I also have to spend so much time on the fundamentals of my business.
What was your first job?
My first job was as a personal trainer. I have had a lifelong interest in fitness, and I truly enjoyed guiding each of my clients to a healthier lifestyle. Personal training is a rewarding career, but it is unfortunately not very lucrative. I decided to go into corporate sales after college. I worked there for almost twelve years before launching my advisory business full time.
