Mikael Marczak, Director and Cinematographer

Mikael Marczak is a California-based Cinematographer and Movie Director. “All These Sleepless Nights” and “Fuck for Forest” are two movies that have recently earned Marczak reputation in the industry. For instance, he won the Best Directing Award in 2016 after “All These Sleepless Nights” premiered at Sundance Film Festival.

Marczak pursued his film studies in Poznan, Poland at the Academy of Fine Arts before joining California Institute of Arts. He started his career while studying at California Institute. Most of his movies are documentaries that feature lives of people. Furthermore, Mikael is a co-creator of “True Teens” which is a commercial project that campaigns for Sprite.

What are your favorite books and why?

Answer: I have read numerous inspirational and motivational books throughout my career. Examples include “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hills and “The Fountainhead” by Ayn Rand. These two books provide the essential understanding to start and run a professional business. These are books that I recommend to every entrepreneur whether aspiring or already in business.

What’s the best advice you ever received?

Answer: “In my business, the customer is the boss.” My clients are the millions of fans across the world. I work hard in every movie production to meet their expectations. Additionally, I take the time to listen and act on their feedbacks which help me to improve on my job. To me, fans come first.

What are your aspirations in life?

Answer: Foremost is to improve the lives of people around me. In this way, I engage in community matters to identify the contemporary issues that affect our society. These problems are featured as themes of my documentaries. Additionally, passion for my career is instrumental in my success. I have a passion for seeing a better-transformed society.

One prediction about the future?

Answer: Technology will virtually change everything! For example, I like the idea of 3D printing which I consider so fascinating. I think if the world goes this way, life will get much easier and more interesting.

What’s your biggest professional accomplishment?

Answer: First, I was able to kick off my career while pursuing my studies. I enjoyed a big success that I attribute to the present accomplishments of my life. Secondly, winning countless awards is a major breakthrough. These are prizes that motivate me to continue improving this industry.

The last place you traveled to?

Answer: Poznan in Poland. I was born and brought up in this area before relocating to the United States. I visit Poznan frequently to spend time with my family and childhood friends.

Do you have any advice for other film professionals?

Answer: Yes, any professional must work for the benefit of the society. Money should come second. In this way, success is guaranteed.
