Oded Bahat – Beverly Hills Dental Implants Periodontist
Oded Bahat is an internationally renowned surgeon who specializes in periodontics, surgical implant placement, and reconstructive procedures.
What are some important things you’ve learned in your career path?
1. Accurate diagnosis is the key for successful treatment.
2. Patients will often accept treatment without asking the relevant and important questions.
3. One of the biggest risks is underestimating the challenge and overestimating one’s ability for a successful outcome.
4. Teamwork is essential. Many treatments are multi-disciplinary and one person cannot do it all.
Aspirations for the next five years?
The big challenge is to create treatment protocols that include the new findings regarding skull changes and craniofacial growth and its effects on prosthetic and surgical implant reconstruction. These normal physiological changes of the face directly influence implant placement and the thought process of treatment. This knowledge should be incorporated in treatment planning and is a consideration with every patient.
One prediction about the future?
It’s like the present, only accelerated. There will be further technological developments regarding surgical and implant reconstruction, and there will be further failures due to mis-treatment or wrong treatment.
What’s your biggest professional accomplishment?
That is not for me to say.
Do you have any advice for other dental implant professionals?
Yes, they should always make sure to follow proper scientific advice and not fads.
Do you have any advice for prospective dental implant patients?
Ask questions. Ask how many similar types of procedures the clinician has performed, as well as their success rate. Ask to see results of other similar patients. Ask how long they’ve been performing that procedure and ask to speak to other patients who have undergone that treatment—recent patients AND past patients (5-10 years before).
