Whitney Blodgett is a known SaaS company owner and developer in Atlanta, Georgia. She started her career as an associate developer, working for a tech firm that integrates applications in social media platforms. Through this, she gained experience in software development as well as front-end and back-end web development. She used her prior skills to finally branch out on her own and establish her own company.
Throughout her local community, Whitney Blodgett saw the need for businesses to establish their own online retail store. She reached out to local stores that wish to reduce their overhead expenses and pitched her SaaS service to them. These include inventory keeping, expense and profit accounting, and web development of a responsive online retail website.
These local businesses were attracted to her idea, and Ms. Blodgett eventually grew her team of more than 15 associate developers with certain fields of expertise. They don’t just serve clients in Georgia, but they also reach out to businesses in big cities such as New York, Houston, and San Francisco. They also currently have clients in different sectors such as retail, manufacturing, and human services.
What do you do in your spare time?
I love traveling and doing photography in my spare time. The nature of my job involves me and my team always staring at our computer and laptop screens. I take a break during afternoons and weekend mornings for a leisurely walk around the parks in the city. When I see a unique landscape, plant or even a beautiful bird, I stop to take a nice photo of it. I believe that it is my way to de-stress and regain my energy to focus on the tasks we have ahead of us.
Traveling is also one of my greatest joys. I have been to 35 out of 50 states in the USA, and I want to go to the other 15 more this next two years! Next in my itinerary is Rhode Island and Alaska. I also love exploring exotic foreign cultures. Two years ago, my family and I went to the Maldives and it was just one of the most peaceful, serene, and astonishingly beautiful places I have set my foot upon. I believe that traveling is the only thing I can spend on that makes me feel genuinely richer.
What’s your favorite type of food?
My favorite type of food is southern cooking! Being in Atlanta, that was the food of my childhood. Although a lot of people would say that Atlanta is a mix of the southern and eastern cuisine, I really enjoy my crawfish, chicken, pies and hearty sides. Thanksgiving is my favorite time of the year because I get to have all of those in one day. During Mardi Gras season, my family and I would try to visit New Orleans to have that southern cooking vibe as well. There are also a lot of restaurants in Atlanta that offer those dishes, so it always feels like home to me.
What are your aspirations in life?
My aspirations in life are fairly simple. Some people would think that I’m an overly driven businessman because of the nature of my business. Others would perceive me as highly intelligent because they don’t really know all about this SaaS terminologies. I am just here to help people in the most relevant way I can, and in this case, I am helping them through technology. I believe that SaaS is the solution for hopeful entrepreneurs to succeed more in their plans. Seeing that 80-90% of startups fail in the first 3 years of business, I want to be a part of that statistical change. I want to decrease the chance of failure and be a foundation for their success.
What is your favorite thing about working in your industry?
The best thing about working for people in my industry is that there is never a time to be bored. Technology is always fast-paced, and it has been like that ever since the development of computers and the internet. The possibilities are endless. I get to always be updated with the newest trends in SaaS, web and software development, as well as other features we can integrate into our services. Aside from this, I also get to meet interesting people with entrepreneurial mindsets. I learn a lot from their struggle and their dedication, as well as new things that I pick up about their industry.
What was your first job?
The first job I took after college is working for a small tech firm as an associate developer. In that job, we were tasked to develop apps that can be integrated with social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. I learned about the preferences of the millennials, and it was interesting to see how trends change for a short amount of time. I decided to look into helping businesses instead of solo users. That is where I feel most accomplished, and where I am confident in learning.
